![]() It's not entirely uncommon for there to be two spells that exist in a very similar lane or niche, but are differentiated by their availability. Broadly, Sorc / Warlock / Wizard cannot cast ZoT, Clerics and Pallys don't get Suggestion. AFAIK, only Bards always have both as an option. These spells are not always both available to all casters. There's a LOT of gray area in the Suggestion spell regarding "to the best of it's ability", and "obviously harmful" that are going to depend on context.Zone of Truth does not prevent a creature from speaking INACCURATELY, if their information or beliefs are just wrong, in the first place.Zone of Truth DOES NOT compel people to actually speak, or from trying to be deceptive by playing around in what counts as "within the boundaries of the truth".Some creatures will be immune to Charm, and thus, Suggestion.Because ZoT lasts for 10 minutes, a creature inside has to make dozens and dozens of saves, because it's every time they start a 6s turn inside the area, and they are much more likely to fail within a minute or two. Suggestion is one save, which the enemy may pass.In general, these are very finnicky spells that are not likely to be ruled the same way, from table to table, so their actual efficacy has a wide range, because they're SO table-dependent. Such a creature can be evasive in its answers as long as it remains within the boundaries of the truth." An affected creature is aware of the spell and can thus avoid answering questions to which it would normally respond with a lie. You know whether each creature succeeds or fails on its saving throw. On a failed save, a creature can't speak a deliberate lie while in the radius. Until the spell ends, a creature that enters the spell's area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must make a Charisma saving throw. "You create a magical zone that guards against deception in a 15-foot-radius sphere centered on a point of your choice within range. On a failed save, it pursues the course of action you described to the best of its ability. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. Asking the creature to stab itself, throw itself onto a spear, immolate itself, or do some other obviously harmful act ends the spell. The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the course of action sound reasonable. Creatures that can't be charmed are immune to this effect. "You suggest a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two) and magically influence a creature you can see within range that can hear and understand you. Even if in truth, only the magician can know. I have the impression that the only interest of Zone of truth, is to be used during a discussion or a negotiation, so that everyone knows that nobody is lying. It seems to me that the Suggestion spell ("tell me what I want to know or you will be executed") is infinitely more effective than Zone of truth. Let's say I want to interrogate a prisoner.
